An example is twisted PCF, which creates optical vortices that carry orbital angular momentum and providing an elegant means of circular birefringence and dichroism, most recently in hollow-core PCF. This talk introduces miniature fiber-optic sensors for the magnetic field, temperature, and liquid level measurement. The magnetic field sensor is based on a
magnetic fluid (MF)-infiltrated phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating, which has a micrometer-level action length about 10 μm of MF. And the temperature sensor consists of a compact Michelson interferometer with highly Germaniadoped fiber. An appropriately narrow FSR of 18.9 nm is observed through the sensing fiber is as short as 1.0 mm. In addition, anti-resonant reflecting guidance in short length of silica tube is utilized to detect tiny liquid level variation. Its limit of detection is proved to be around 50 μm. These designed sensors are much more compact than normal fiber-based sensors, which is a key feature in point measurement because what we achieve is actually the average effect along the total length of the probe.
